What is my dad doing?

Hi my dad lives alone and has been known to get involved with some illegal stuff. And the past few times we have noticed that in my dad's room he has things that seem out of the ordinary. I don't know what he is doing so does anyone know what he could be doing with test tubes, lighter fluid, wax, and copper wire which is wrapped around the test tubes?
